Safeguarding our Passwords

Safety can mean so many different things.

We wear seatbelts in cars, look both ways before we cross a street, use potholders when grabbing a hot pot – all to be safe.

These are little precautions drilled into us since childhood. But for many of us the technology that we use in all aspects of our businesses today was literally non-existent when we were kids. That also means we are learning as we go on safeguarding our online accounts. In an era of hacking and identity theft – this has never been more important.

But here’s the thing…

Show of hands: Who graduated high school before cell phones were a thing? How many of us had a pager? Know what we also didn’t have? Email and a million passwords to remember.

I can also recite my phone number from when I was 7 but ask me what either of my parents phone numbers are today and I am at a complete loss. Toss in the need to have a password for dozens of banks, email accounts, accounting software and complimentary programs – forget it. No literally. I can’t remember any of them.

As my business grew, and I needed to access more logins for client work – I searched a solid solution to safeguard passwords that I couldn’t even remember myself. Every website has different password requirements and using something easy to remember like Password1234 isn’t exactly a great idea. I was spending more time searching my notes for passwords then I cared to admit.

Using a VPN and password manager from my antivirus software was a good solution when it was just me, but with my business growth, my team expanded. That solution wasn’t going to cut it.

Sound familiar?

It was stressful. Then a friend suggested that I look into a password sharing program designed specifically for teams.

Life changing.

Now I can share up to date logins without sharing the passwords. Clients that use LastPass can also share with us as well without giving us a password. It’s a game changer.

I can rest easy knowing that I am safeguarding my clients accounts. Yet my team and I can still be productive.

Best part?

I use it for family related passwords too – so in the hopefully very unlikely event that something happens to me, I can SAFELY say that my team and my family can still function.

Clients can be sure their work is being completed with the quality they have come to expect from us and my family can keep up our daily lives - right on down to replenishing the lunch money account at school.
